ELO Ranking System

ELO is a skill-based ranking system originally created for chess. In RankedRust, your ELO goes up when you succeed (kills, raids, monument control) and down when you fail (deaths, getting raided).

Key Points:

  • Everyone starts at 1000 ELO
  • Killing higher-ranked players = bigger ELO gains
  • Dying to lower-ranked players = bigger ELO losses
  • It's about skill, not grind - Quality over quantity

Example: If you're 1200 ELO and kill a 1500 ELO player, you might gain +30 ELO. But if you kill a 900 ELO player, you might only gain +5 ELO.

Increases ELO

  • Player kills
  • Tool cupboard destructions
  • Successful raids
  • Monument control
  • Defeating higher-ranked opponents

Decreases ELO

  • Player deaths
  • Your TC being destroyed
  • Getting raided
  • Dying to lower-ranked players
  • Excessive deaths

RankedRust has 6 distinct rank tiers, each with a unique border displayed on your avatar:

Wipes & Seasons

Wipes are server resets that happen regularly in Rust. When a wipe occurs:

  • The map is reset (all bases, loot, resources gone)
  • Players start fresh with nothing
  • It's a new competitive season on RankedRust

On RankedRust: Each wipe is a "season" where you can track your performance. We maintain both per-wipe stats AND a global ELO that persists across wipes.

Wipe frequency varies by server, but typically:

  • Forced wipes: First Thursday of every month (Facepunch requirement)
  • Optional wipes: May occur weekly or bi-weekly depending on server settings

Check the Wipes page for upcoming wipe schedules and to sign up for notifications.

No! Your global ELO persists across wipes. However:

  • Global ELO: Carries over and continues to change with each wipe
  • Per-Wipe Stats: Track your performance during specific wipes (kills, deaths, ELO delta for that wipe)
  • Best of both worlds: Long-term progression + fresh seasonal competition

Example: You end Wipe #5 at 1250 ELO. When Wipe #6 starts, you still have 1250 ELO and can continue climbing!

Before each wipe, the community votes on which map to play! Admins submit 2-3 map options, and players vote for their favorite.

How to vote:

  1. Visit the Wipes page
  2. Find the upcoming wipe
  3. Click "Vote" on your preferred map
  4. The map with the most votes wins!

Clans & Teams

Clans allow you to team up with other players and compete together:

  • 4-letter clan tag displayed next to your name
  • Clan leaderboards ranked by average member ELO
  • Per-wipe clan rankings based on total ELO delta
  • Application system for joining clans
  • Member protection - can't gain/lose ELO from clan members

To create a clan:

  1. Visit the Clans page
  2. Click "Create Clan"
  3. Choose a unique 4-letter tag (e.g., "RUST", "PVP1")
  4. Add clan name and description

To join a clan:

  1. Browse clans in the Clan Directory
  2. Click on a clan you'd like to join
  3. Click "Apply to Join"
  4. Wait for clan leaders to approve your application

Note: You can only be in one clan at a time.

No. Kills and deaths between clan members are completely blocked from affecting ELO. This prevents farming and ensures fair competition.

When you kill a clan member:

  • No ELO change for either player
  • Kill/death doesn't count in stats
  • The kill is logged for monitoring but ignored
